Admission at St Aloysius College

May 9, 2009: St. Aloysius College (Autonomous), Mangalore with NAAC “A” has a lot to offer. Besides B.A. (Journalism) course it offers Master in Journalism or post graduation in Mass Communication.

The institute is one of the best in terms of facilities when it comes to media studies. They have a quality and dedicated staff, besides good study/learning atmosphere and facilities. The admissions have begun in April.

As for Masters in Mass Communication - The course gets into its second year.

Mass Communication has 30 seats on offer.

The course is designed to offer three specialisations in

1) Broadcast Media,2) Corporate Communication, 3) Print and New Media Journalism.

These specialisations prepare the students for the industry and for academics with enough and more theoretico-practical training, internship, and placement opportunities.

To add to the high profile of St Aloysius is SARANG – a Community FM Radio, good rapport with industry and very specially good brand name in the industry.

Fees: Rs 50,000/- per year. There might be a small amount to be paid to the university (the High Court has ordered that universities should not collect – that would be plus to you!)

Indian Institute of Journalism and New Media

The Indian Institute of Journalism & New Media (IIJNM) in Bangalore is one of South Asia's leading post-graduate schools of journalism and media offering an excellent curriculum that combines both theory and practice to prepare its graduates for positions in the media industry.

IIJNM offers the following three programs:

1. A Postgraduate Diploma for students with a Bachelors degree.

2. A Diploma program for students who have completed pre-university or Standard 12.

These two courses are offered in two semesters: July-December and January-June.

3. IIJNM offers concentrations in Television journalism, Radio journalism, Newspaper journalism, Magazine journalism and New Media (Web) journalism.

IIJNM is situated on 5 acres of beautifully kept grounds surrounded by rolling hills.

The 30,000-sq.-ft. facility features large classrooms, auditoriums, a sophisticated media lab, library, and conference rooms. Each student is assigned a private study area with a personal computer (recent model with large memory and storage space) connected to a network running powerful servers, e-mail, and high-speed 24 hour access to the Internet. Full-time and part-time faculty members are assigned private offices equipped with computers connected to the network.

The Institute also subscribes to several fee-based websites in addition to our own extensive on-line library that contains a collection of major journalism works. Major software tools used in Television, Radio, Print and Web journalism are also available.

Separate dormitories for male and female students and adjoining dining hall close to the college make living and study convenient and comfortable.

IIJNM infrastructure and resources are of world standard, and meet the needs for offering an excellent academic program.

Admission procedure for the diploma programs:

1. Completion and submission of application form.

2. A personal interview.

3. Notification and acceptance of admission

All application materials must reach IIJNM by May 30, 2009, for the July 2009 entry point. The application will not be considered unless all materials are typewritten (or written legibly), signed and dated. Applications that do not reach by their due dates may not be considered.

Note: Early applicants may submit their applications prior to March 31, 2009, for consideration. These applicants will be notified of conditional acceptance by May 15, 2009. Admissions will be confirmed subject to qualifying examination results (if college final examination results are not available at the time of application).

We are back
